The Kalevala, the national epic of Finland, is a collection of ancient runes and song-poems compiled by Elias Lönnrot. Lönnrot’s book has since been published internationally and translated into 63 different languages, and has been a key influencer of Finland’s national consciousness, art, and culture.

The Nordic Heritage Museum’s annual Kalevala Festival is adding a day to the celebration, featuring seventeen storytellers from California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia presenting the Kalevala.
